MOVA (Multi-Overlay Video Ad)

MOVA (Multi-Overlay Video Ad) turns landscape video into a full-screen mobile creative. A full-width streaming video sits between two independently styled content areas, one above and one below, each with its own background, overlay and click destination. Existing 16:9 campaign films can run in high impact mobile placements without being re-cut for portrait.

Where it runs

MOVA is a banner template, available in Mobile Midscroll and Mobile Topscroll. Choose MOVA (Multi-Overlay Video Ad) as the banner when setting up the creative in the Suite.

How it works

The creative is made of three stacked bands: the top container, the video and the bottom container.

Layout Preset decides how the space around the video is shared: 50/50, 60/40 (video lower), 40/60 (video higher) or a Custom split.
Background Mode gives each container its own background (Separate), or stretches the top background across the whole creative behind the video (Unified) for one continuous scene.
Overlays carry the headline, logo, CTA and legal copy as transparent images. The bottom container takes two overlays side by side, so the logo and CTA stay separate and scale independently.
Click URLs can be set per container, so the top and bottom can link to different pages. Both fall back to the default Click URL.

The video can be inset with rounded corners and a drop shadow, and the backgrounds can settle in with a slow zoom as the creative comes into view. Optional play/pause, mute and a scrubbable progress bar give the reader control of the video.

Safe Zones

In a Midscroll only the middle part of the creative is visible at a time. MOVA handles this automatically: each overlay is scaled to fit the part of its container that stays visible, so overlays are never cropped. Backgrounds and the video stay full bleed. Design overlays at the proportions of the space they will fill, and keep all copy inside the overlay images.

Assets

MOVA is built for a portrait, full-screen mobile slot, so design every asset against a 1080x1920 canvas. The video sits across the full width, and the space above and below it is shared between the top and bottom containers according to the Layout Preset. With a 16:9 video, each container is roughly 1080x660 at 50/50, and the larger container roughly 1080x790 at 60/40 or 40/60.

Video

One video plays across the full width of the creative, between the two containers. It starts muted and is automatically optimised and streamed using our video streaming technology. The video band follows the Video Aspect Ratio setting (16:9 by default; 4:3, 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16 are also available), so supply the video in the ratio you choose.

Video (required) - MP4, 1920x1080 (16:9) or similar, max file size 50mb, recommended length 6-20 seconds

Backgrounds

Each container has its own background (Separate Backgrounds), or the top background can run behind the whole creative (Unified Top Background) for one continuous scene. Backgrounds are scaled to cover their container and cropped towards the chosen anchor point, so keep important details away from the edges. Where no background image is supplied, the container is filled with its background colour.

Top Background (optional) - JPG/WEBP, 1080x800 or similar, max 250kb
Bottom Background (optional) - JPG/WEBP, 1080x800 or similar, max 250kb. Not used with a Unified Top Background
Unified background (optional) - JPG/WEBP, 1080x1920, max 250kb. Upload it as the Top Background and set Background Mode to Unified Top Background; it then runs behind the whole creative

Overlays

Overlays carry your messaging and branding (logo, headline, CTA, legal copy), with all text rendered into the image. Each overlay is scaled to fit the part of its container that stays visible on screen, without being cropped, so design them as wide, shallow images and export them without any empty space around the content. The bottom container can take two overlays side by side, for example a logo on the left and a CTA on the right, so that each scales on its own.

Top Overlay (optional) - PNG/WEBP/SVG with transparent background, 1000x400 or similar, max 200kb
Bottom Overlay (optional) - PNG/WEBP/SVG with transparent background, 1000x400 or similar (500x400 when used with Bottom Overlay 2), max 200kb
Bottom Overlay 2 (optional) - PNG/WEBP/SVG with transparent background, 500x400 or similar, max 200kb

Format description and guidance

Add your click URL, and then upload your video. Choose a Layout Preset to decide whether the video sits in the middle (50/50), lower down (60/40) or higher up (40/60), or set your own split with Custom.

Next add your backgrounds. Choose Separate Backgrounds to give the top and bottom containers their own images and colours, or Unified Top Background to run one image behind the whole creative. Use the anchor points to control which part of each background stays in view when it is cropped.

Then add your overlays, and use Overlay Height, Alignment and Padding to size and position them within their containers. The top and bottom containers can each have their own click URL, for example to send the logo and the CTA to different pages; if left empty, they use the default click URL.

Finally, adjust the video settings if needed: inset the video with a narrower Video Width, round its corners and add a drop shadow, and choose whether to show the mute, play/pause and progress bar controls. The video will automatically be optimised to 3.5mb, however you can reduce this if necessary (eg if a publisher has stricter requirements around max file sizes) by modifying the Max Video Stream Weight.

Max total file weight

Video: Files up to 50 MB are accepted, with a recommended maximum length of 20 seconds.
Images: Maximum 250kb per background and 200kb per overlay.

Animation

Maximum of 5 loops. Maximum animation time 30 seconds (may vary by publisher).

Audio

Video always starts muted. With Audio enabled a mute toggle lets the reader turn sound on, and it is hidden automatically for videos without an audio track.
